As we approached the school gates, my Peter Rabbit ran in to meet the Queen of Hearts, Stick Man, The Cat in the Hat and The Worst Witch for a game of tag.
Parents spend hours on costumes for World Book Day in our school, but none are as outlandish as those of the Head and her deputy.
Every year they attempt to outdo themselves. Last year they borrowed a mobility scooter and drove round the school playgrounds as Gangsta Grannies.
This year, Aardman’s Wallace and Gromit were the inspiration. We found the Head pedalling around on a pushbike dressed as Wallace (in heels), towing the school dog in a trailer, while the Deputy Head, dressed as Shaun the Sheep, handed out small rounds of waxed Wensleydale cheese. You couldn’t make it up.
