A hole lot of pecking going on

Birds are so busy. They make me tired just watching them. In our garden, activity reaches its peak in nesting season, as birds gather feathers, straw and other suitable cosy bits and pieces ready to begin construction.

There is a woodpecker in the park – on our way to school we can hear it drilling the wood with its beak.

Woodpeckers peck for a number of reasons – to find food, to attract a mate and to make a nest hole.

Hopefully, if this one manages to get a good meal and a girlfriend, it won’t be long before we see the punky red feathers of the chicks poking out of the nest hole.
