Exploring The Isles of Scilly

The Isles of Scilly reminds me of Mrs Dodd, my music teacher in primary school. Every year she would visit the little archipelago off the south coast and bring back tales of carless islands and wonderful wildlife.

Many years later it is my turn to visit, flying out by prop plane from the diminutive and very manageable Land’s End airport.

We stayed in a castle shaped like a star, from which we adventured to the many different islands nearby. We spotted everything from seals and puffins to dung beetles, ticking off every creature on our list bar one – Mrs Dodd. I’d love to have seen her there after all these years.
